The fashion sense associated with the 1950s clothes was very different from the dressing style of today. Fashion will never go away but for sometime a new style will remain in vogue. It might reappear again after sometime. The world war ll had a great negative impact on the cloth manufacturing companies. New fashionable clothing was created using affordable materials. Simple clothing was the need of the day. The many changes taking place in the political scene had a spillover effect on all the activities of a society. The history of fashionable clothing has undergone some changes. It also depends on the liking of the people. The younger generation always have a liking for new trends in dressing .There has been change today from the past in the style of skirts like flare skirts, narrow skirts etc. Most of the clothes used then were of materials like nylon, silk, satin, chiffon, Lenin and rayon etc. The design adopted for wedding gowns were different. Mini skirts and long dresses were available in the market for the ladies. Women wore printed blouses with thin strap, high neck like boat neck blouses, jumper blouse etc to look attractive on special occasions. The dresses of women had a low waist line. The chiffon material was much in use in the 1950s. A number of fashionable clothes was made using plastic and leather.
The youth always look out for new trends in dressing. There was a change in mens wear also. They wore sleeveless shirts and jackets. With shirts, long sleeves and polo shirts were most preferred by men. In the evenings, they wore the velvet material or chiffon according to the weather conditions. Fur was considered to be luxury. The movie stars clothing had a great impact on the people. The 1950s clothes meant for office wear were simple. An elegant way of dressing was more important for the youth .Petticoats and blouses were more fashionable. Sweaters of different designs were also in fashion with buttons and beads etc. They had the floral prints and stripes. The designers had a difficult time crafting new designs. Slim skirts and pencil skirts were also in fashion. The V neck blouses were much liked .Pencil skirt looked more attractive for the women. Some skirts had pleats at waist which gives a broader look for the thin women. Girdles were to be worn without the petticoat. In the 1950s, woolen clothes were also famous. |
